Fifth District Commander Luther Reynolds has held several executive commands and assignments, but began his career in the 5th District, where he was assigned Commander in August of 2010. He commanded the 2nd District from 2000 through 2002, was the Director of Personnel from 2002 through 2005, became the Training and Education Division Director in 2005 through 2008, and was last assigned as Director of the Special Operations Division between the years of 2008 through 2010. Commander Reynolds first assignment in 1989 was as a patrol officer in the 5th District. At that time, the 5th District encompassed what is now the 6th District territory in addition to it's own territory and was the busiest station. In his career, Commander Reynolds has also served as Deputy Commander of the 4th District, has spent time as both an instructor and a team leader at the Training Academy. In addition to his duties as Commander of the 5th District, Captain Reynolds is also part of the cadre in the Montgomery County Police IACP Leadership in Police Organizations Leadership Development Institute.
Commander Reynolds holds a Masters degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelors degree from Florida State University. He has completed the FBI National Academy and the Army War College National Security Seminar. He has a family in Montgomery County and two children who attend school in the area.
