On-line Citizen Reporting System (CRS).
For a crime in progress, DIAL 911 NOW.
CRS is designed to make it easier and more convenient for you to file a police report without leaving home; however, not every crime can be reported using the CRS. You may report theft, vandalism, identity theft, and lost property using the CRS. Please confirm the following to find out if CRS is right for you:
- This is not an Emergency
- This incident occurred within Montgomery County. However, the incident does not qualify for the CRS if it occurred in Takoma Park or on NIH, park or metro property.
- This is not a motor vehicle accident
- The value of property stolen is less than $10,000
- There are no known suspects
- This incident did not happen on the interstate
Email is required to file a report. If you answered yes to all of the above, you are ready to file your report online. If you answered no any of the questions please look at our CRS
Frequently Asked Questions section.
Upon completion of this report process you will:
- Be given a temporary report number
- Be able to print a copy of the temporary report to keep for your records
- Your report will be reviewed by department staff
- You will be e-mailed a approved copy of your report
- If further investigation of your case is needed, you may be contacted
Please Note:
- If you encounter any problems completing your report, please contact MCPD staff at 240-773-5384.
- If you are making a Theft from Vehicle report, please call 301-279-8000 after completing your on-line report for an officer's response for scene processing.
- FILING A FALSE POLICE REPORT IS A CRIME
The application which you are
filing is being filed under oath. Article 27, Section
151, of the Annotated Code of Maryland provides that any
person who makes a false statement or report of a crime
or causes such a false report or statement to be made to
any official or agency of this State, knowing the same,
or any material part thereof, to be false and with
intent that such official or agency investigate,
consider or take action in connection with such
statement or report, shall be subject to a fine of not
more than $500, or be imprisoned not more than six
months, or be both fined and imprisoned, in the
discretion of the court.
