Captain Pierce joined the Montgomery County Police Department in 1990 graduating from the Police Academy Session XXIII. Upon completion of field training he was assigned to the 2nd District as a patrol officer. While there he helped create the Friendship Heights Community Officer Program, and was one of three officers assigned to a newly created 2nd District Bicycle Patrol Unit. As a patrol officer he was assigned to the Chief’s Office, Office of Community Policing as well as the Special Investigation Division, Repeat Offender Section.

In January of 1997 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the 1st District. During this assignment he was a Shift Supervisor, the Lincoln Park Task Force Supervisor, the Rockville Action Team Supervisor and the 1st District Community Policing Coordinator. In October, 2001 he was selected as the Traffic Squad Supervisor for the 2nd District. 

Captain Pierce was promoted to Lieutenant in 2002 and assigned as a Deputy District Commander for the 5th District. He was transferred to the Field Services Bureau as the Administrative Lieutenant for the Assistant Chief of Police and was later assigned to the Department of Homeland Security as the Intelligence and Security Liaison for the police department. 

In 2006 he was assigned as the Administrative Lieutenant to the Assistant Chief of Police, Investigative Services Bureau and later as the Administrative Lieutenant to the Chief of Police. He was promoted to Captain in September of 2006 and transferred to the Field Services Bureau as a Duty Commander.  In November of 2008, Captain Pierce was transferred to the Office of the Chief of Police as Chief Manger's Chief of Staff.   

Captain Pierce holds a BA from the University of Maryland, College Park and a MS from the Johns Hopkins University. He has published several articles on community policing in professional journals.
