The Gwendolyn E. Coffield Community Center provides a wide range of recreational activities for all ages including open gym activities, arts and crafts, exercise/leisure classes, preschool programs, area and county-wide sports programs, special events, an after school program and a summer children's program. The indoor facilities include a gymnasium, exercise/weight room, a conference room, art room, game room, computer lab, community lounge and social hall of which some rooms may be rented for private parties and events. The outdoor area includes a grassy field, softball/baseball field, soccer field, tennis court, and a basketball court, all of which are maintained by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
In Detail For those seeking a fitness or sports challenge, the gymnasium is a regulation size 72' X 95' which includes basketball, volleyball and badminton courts. The gymnasium is used for a variety of organized leagues, competitions, instructional programs, and is routinely scheduled for self-directed "open gym" play. Open Gym memberships are available for ages16 years and older. The exercise/weight room is equipped with a full circuit of self-administered weight and cardiovascular machines with affordable memberships also available.
The social hall, which can accommodate up to 200 participants, provides space for a variety of social and dance activities. This spacious room is available for private parties with rental fees determined by the type and duration of the event. A warming kitchen and large patio is adjacent to the social hall and also available for use. For smaller meetings a conference room and a community lounge are available for rent as well.
You'll find opportunities for table tennis, billiards, air hockey and foosball among the activities available in the game room, and the large lobby is a good place just to relax. A 10-station computer lab is also available. Check with center staff for schedule and availibility.
Our objective is to offer activities and experiences, which provide our customers with personal enjoyment and satisfaction. Whether your interest is in sports, fitness, dance, music, art or the opportunity to join together with friends and neighbors for a special celebration or social gathering, the Gwendolyn E. Coffield Community Center has something to offer you. For older residents, the Coffield Seniors is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Club REC is an after school program for children, kindergarten through 5th grade, that is available Monday through Friday during the school year until 6:00 pm. At $500.00 for the year (or ten monthly installments of $50), this is an affordable, fun, and secure program for your children that provides time and assistance for homework including access to the computer lab, as well as active fun. It provides a safe and fun place for children and peace of mind for parents while they work.
In partnership with the Parent Resource Center, preschool activities are available during the school year for parents with their children, ages 1 to 5, on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. Providing both resources to parents, as well as toys, activities and social opportunities for young children, here is a great opportunity for interaction and support.
