Indoor Pools
The Department of Recreation operates four indoor swimming pools to serve Montgomery County residents. These pools are accessible to individuals with disabilities. Thank you for your participation in Montgomery County Recreation aquatics programming. MCR is proud of our aquatics facilities and works hard to uphold our well-earned reputation for the provision of quality aquatics programs and activities. We sincerely appreciate your support, participation, and involvement in our programs and services. In our continued effort to provide quality customer service we want to let you know about the elevator repair at the Martin Luther King Swim Center.
As you are likely aware, the elevator at the Martin Luther King Swim Center has needed repair for quite awhile. After the long wait, the repairs are now underway. The elevator cannot be used during the renovation, which is scheduled through August 2012. During the elevator renovation, the public access will be the stairs, with an alternate access avaliable to anyone not able to use the stairs.
The alternate access is through a side entrance to the building. There will be two reserved parking spots designated as accessible parking spaces. The spaces are located immediately adjacent to the door at the back right side of the building. Patrons needing use of that door are asked to call the front desk at 240-777-8060 when they arrive at the parking space. The front desk staff will ensure that the door will be opened and provide you with an escort into the pool. Please note that the back door remains locked at all times, so it is important that you call the front desk once you arrive at the building.
If you need accommodations, speak with Carey Apple, MLK Recreaiton Supervisor; to ensure that your needs are met while the elevator renovation is taking place. We recognize that this is not an ideal situation, but ask your support and understanding with the short-term inconvenience that will enhance long-term accessibility to the facility.
