Catch the Excitement

The Active Adults 55+ Programs of Montgomery County Department of Recreation offers a wide variety of energizing and enjoyable programs specifically designed for adults who wish to maintain healthy and fulfilling lives and are at least 55 years of age. As diverse as the people they serve, these offerings provide a broad spectrum of opportunities and experiences.

The "UnbeWiiVables" of our own Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center took the national championship of the 2011 NSL Fall Wii bowling tournament!  The finals were held in DC on October 18, 2011. The National Senior League Wii Bowling League is made up of over 100 teams from 21 different states.  Teams competed against each other virtually for 10 weeks of league play and three weeks of playoffs.  It all came down to a two-team face-off in person at the finals in which our team defeated a team from LeGrange, Georgia.  Congratuations to the Schweinhaut Champions!

Senior Centers offer classes and educational programs, exercise and fitness, health screening and education, entertainment and special events.

Neighborhood Senior Programs provide health and fitness, social opportunities, varied programs and enjoyable mini-trips

SOAR (Senior Outdoor Adventures in Recreation) day trips include walking tours, canoeing, biking and other energetic excursions

Lifelong Learning Opportunities classes, seminars and workshops for every interest

Exercise and Fitness Programs many levels, include aerobic and strength-building regimens

Volunteer Opportunities many possibilities, interesting responsibilities

Health and Social Services free or discounted health education, screening and counseling
