Background:
The Retail Security and Loss Prevention Association was developed by local businesses, the State's Attorney's Office, and the Montgomery County Police Department in an effort to proactively deter criminal activity and to develop prevention strategies for handling public safety issues that impact on business. It was incorporated in 1994 and trains state sworn special police officers, security officers, loss prevention agents, and business managers to assist local law enforcement in the prevention of crime in the business community.
In 1996 the Association received the Governor's Certificate of Merit for an outstanding Crime Prevention Program as well as a National Association of Counties Achievement Award for Retail Security and Loss Prevention Training Initiative "in recognition of its distinguished and innovative contribution to improving and promoting county government in the United States".
