The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Deputy Sheriff Candidate.  A written examination for applicant testing will be conducted on the following dates in the Executive Office Building Cafeteria (101 Monroe Street, Terrace Level, Rockville, MD 20850).

Applicants will be notified of a test date and time via email prior to test date.  Walk-in applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are welcome to sit for the written examinations. However, they must also apply online to the Deputy Sheriff Requisition by the Wednesday after sitting for the examination to proceed further in the application process. Job Description:

A Deputy Sheriff Candidate receives a comprehensive, six (6) month training through a recruit training program. The work of Deputy Sheriff involves performing regulatory and law enforcement duties to protect the lives and property of County citizens. Employees work varying shifts (including split shifts, evenings and midnight) and may be called upon to work irregular days (including weekends and holidays). Deputies must also be available for periodic overnight trips and be able to travel by air, when necessary, to return inmates to and from other States. PLEASE NOTE – IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, CANDIDATES MUST INDICATE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ON THEIR APPLICATIONS/RESUMES AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION: 1) DATE OF BIRTH; 2) HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION OR GED EQUIVALENT; 3) POSSESSION OF A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE; and 4) U.S. CITIZENSHIP.

All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications confirmed by OHR will be scheduled for a written examination.  Based on the results of the written examination, applications will be rated “Did Not Pass,” “Qualified,” or “Well Qualified.”  The highest rated applicants will be placed on the Eligible List and may be considered for interview.

Candidates are required to successfully complete an oral interview, background investigation, polygraph, physical, psychological and drug and alcohol screen.

Minimum Qualifications  

Experience:
None.

Education: 
Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Equivalency:
None.

License     
Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid driver’s license.

OTHER:      
Be a United States citizen and 21 years of age as of the first day of employment as a sworn Deputy Sheriff.
