Andrew Kim House: The residents at Andrew Kim House in Olney recycled 52 percent of their waste in 2008. Year after year, the meticulously monitored recycling program and the clean, well labeled containers characterize the value this property places on maintaining an excellent recycling program.

Aspenwood Senior Living Community: The staff and residents at Aspenwood Senior Living Community in Silver Spring continue to excel in their recycling achievement. In 2008, they recycled 54 percent of their waste, proof that staff diligence and monitoring, and resident education and involvement are effective components of excellent recycling programs.

Eighty-Two Hundred: Eighty-Two Hundred in Bethesda has a recycling program that is always ahead of the curve. The staff implements new ideas to improve the recycling rate, and their great attitude is contagious, as the residents recycled 54 percent of their solid waste in 2008.

Fairmont Plaza Condominium: At Fairmont Plaza Condominium, the property manager always has time to discuss the recycling and waste reduction program. The staff maintains a clean, well labeled, well monitored, and up-to-date recycling program. Their efforts resulted in a 56 percent recycling rate in 2008.

The Irene: The residents at the Irene recycled 46 percent of their waste in 2008. The property management has a positive attitude towards recycling, and their willingness to ask for help, implement improvements and schedule educational events for residents has been at the foundation of this successful program.

Kenwood House, Inc.: Staff, residents, and board members share a common goal of recycling all they can recycle at Kenwood House. With the residents engaged and the staff proactively improving the recycling program, the community recycled almost 71 percent of its waste in 2008.

The Riviera of Chevy Chase: At the Riviera of Chevy Chase, the staff maintains consistently high standards for the recycling and waste reduction program. The residents responded by recycling almost 68 percent of their waste in 2008. Management monitors the program closely and is always looking for ways to improve and expand the recycling program.

Willow Manor at Colesville: The residents and staff at Willow Manor at Colesville in Silver Spring recycled over 50 percent of their waste in 2008 in response to well-labeled, clean, and sufficiently sized recycling containers.

Willow Manor at Fair Hill Farm: Willow Manor at Fair Hill Farm in Olney has an excellent recycling program for its residents, who in turn recycled over 62 percent of their waste generated in 2008. The property management provides regular recycling education events for its residents and monitors the recycling program carefully.
Outstanding Improvement in Recycling
Awarded to multi-family properties that made significant improvements to their recycling programs

Bethesda Place: The recycling rate at Bethesda Place tripled to 29 percent in 2008 as a result of management’s attention to the recycling and waste reduction program. They monitor the recycling program as part of their daily routine and respond by increasing recycling capacity as needed.

Lar-Ken Apartments, LLC: Lar-Ken Apartments in Gaithersburg has seen a steady increase in its recycling rate over the last few years and in 2008 recycled almost 36 percent of its waste. Even without an onsite manager, the property consistently has clean and well monitored collection areas and its residents are very recycling-aware.

Pooks Hill Tower: The recycling rate at Pooks Hill Tower in Bethesda doubled to nearly 34 percent in 2008. This increase is the result of the positive “can do” attitude of the management that has resulted in improved signage, scrap metal recycling containers, and resident and staff education enabling greater resident recycling achievement.

West Spring Condominium: As a result of consistent resident education in newsletters and original signage, the residents at West Spring Condominium in Bethesda increased their recycling participation so much that property management added mixed paper recycling dumpsters. The recycling rate at this property nearly tripled to 48 percent in 2008.
Outstanding Individual Achievement in Recycling
Awarded to individuals at multi-family properties for their outstanding efforts to improve recycling programs and/or increase resident recycling awareness and participation

Elisa Arboleda: Ms. Elisa Arboleda, Executive Assistant, works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the Willoughby of Chevy Chase Condominium is in compliance with the County’s recycling regulations. Her focus on resident recycling awareness means resident move-in packets contain recycling information, and newsletters highlight specific recycling topics so that all residents know how to recycle properly.

Reggie Denis: As the Senior Facilities Manager at the nearly two-thousand unit Riderwood Village in Silver Spring, Mr. Reggie Denis is a good-natured role model for implementing and maintaining comprehensive recycling programs that go beyond compliance and engaging and working with residents and staff. Mr. Denis’ partnership with the residents has led to a resident community that is engaged on many fronts, including by the Riderwood Resident Recycling Committee.

Pat Eacho: Ms. Pat Eacho, Property Manager at Tamarron Apartments in Olney, is always looking for ways to improve her property’s recycling program. She is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about recycling and hopes her energy will rub off on her residents as she coordinates resident education events and ensures her residents are aware of changes to the recycling program.

Quentin Lowry: Mr. Quentin Lowry, Environmental Services Manager at Maplewood Park Place in Bethesda, always wants to know how to make the recycling program better, easier and more convenient for the residents. He successfully engages the residents, meeting with them to hear their ideas, creating signs, holding awareness events and distributing flyers and magnets on a regular basis. His recycling enthusiasm is contagious!

Edgar McFoy: Mr. Edgar McFoy, Assistant Property Manager, is the person in charge when it comes to recycling at Grosvenor Park II in Rockville. Enthusiastic and attentive to details, he is quick to ask questions and take the initiative to improve the recycling program as needed. He works in cooperation with the residents to achieve the best recycling and waste reduction program possible.

Garvin Robertson: Mr. Garvin Robertson, Asset Manager for The Blairs in Silver Spring, is the hard-working force behind the recent facelift for the recycling programs at the five different properties comprising The Blairs. He promptly makes improvements, and adds a personal touch by creating his own signage and providing details to improve resident awareness. With extensive renovations underway, Mr. Robertson is also careful to separate out scrap metal items and other materials for recycling.

Allen Stevic: Mr. Allen Stevic, Manager at Willow Wood Condominium in Gaithersburg, was instrumental in increasing mixed paper recycling capacity a few years ago, and as a result of his monitoring and regular attention to resident education, he has increased mixed paper capacity even further where necessary. He is enthusiastic about recycling and always willing to share his best practices with other properties.
