Resource Recovery Facility: Emissions Data

Opacity | Carbon monoxide | Hydrogen chloride | Sulfur dioxide | Nitrogen oxides | Health effects

Opacity

Opacity is a measure of visible emissions in the plume (exhaust gas) released through the stack. Fine particulates cause a visible plume or smoke.

The fabric filter baghouse removes over 99.9% of the particulates. The stack plume has generally never been visible, and the opacity readings have been less than 1%, compared to the permit limit of 10%. Often, hot water vapor condenses above the stack, causing a cloud formation. This plume can be mistaken for smoke as it may appear dark depending on how light passing through the plume is refracted.
