Regarding our America Recycles Day page:
Please put a year with the dates. I was hopeful that the shredding event was this year (2010) but I see that Nov 15 is a Monday and not a Sunday in 2010. So, if this old information from last year? Or was there a mistake on the date? Thank you for clarifying. |
Oops! Yes, you saw old information from last year. Thank you for the reminder to put a year on our dates! Watch our America Recycles Day page for updates - we are going to announce our 2010 events shortly. October 7, 2010 |
Regarding our website:
I just wanted to let you know that this was one of the easiest sites to find and get answers from that I have ever encountered. Thank you! Great work! |
Thank you very much! |
Regarding our Close the Loop video:
The video was interesting. You guys do a great job.
Is there a location that I can take a few good concrete cinder blocks to? |
Thanks! We accept cinderblocks at our building material reuse drop-off. October 5, 2010 |
| I would like to request a bulk pick up (primarily bamboo).
|
To schedule a bulk trash pickup, please contact the Montgomery County Customer Service Center (MC311) at 3-1-1. We handle bamboo as yard trim, not trash, so we sent the resident a link to our yard trim recycling details as well. October 4, 2010 |
Regarding our Recycling Center homepage:
Where are the hours of operation?
Central fact, neither displayed prominently at the top, nor listed as a prominent link. Plus, your links are " below the fold" on my laptop - 1024x768 resolution.
I design web sites and teach courses about web design for [a local college]. This site could really be improved. |
Recyclables are accepted at our Public Unloading Facility, to which our Transfer Station hours apply. We sent this information to the resident. We rearranged the text on the Recycling Center homepage to try to clarify this point. We are constantly tweaking our website, and welcome constructive criticism and suggestions. October 4, 2010
|
| Emphasize that bottles are trashed if tops are kept on.
|
We accept glass and plastic bottles for recycling with and without tops. October 2, 2010 |
| I spent 20 minutes looking or information on how to sign up for service. Can't find anything except to call "311" during business hours. Monday will be too late to get pick-up on Monday, I assume. You need to have this available and very easy to find on your website -- how to sign up and a method for making payment, so that service can get going -- and you can get your revenue.
|
The Montgomery County Customer Service Center (MC311) handles service questions and requests. This request was submitted on a weekend; pickup requests must be made in advance of the collection day. October 2, 2010 |
Does the Recycling place sell compost?
Is the bark stack "seasoned" long enough to be used on gardens - six months? |
We do not sell our compost, marketed as LeafGro, directly at our facilities. Instead, it is sold in bags and bulk at many local retailers. The mulch we offer is "green", fresh off of our grinding equipment. It should be aged for several months before applying it to flower and vegetable gardens. October 1, 2010 |
Regarding our compost bin pickup location page:
Thanks, I did not know free compost bins were available.
|
You are welcome! September 28, 2010 |
Regarding our How to recycle/dispose of... section:
Want to know if I can put wire coat hangers in the recycling bin
|
We do not accept wire hangers in our curbside recycling program. We wrote the resident with alternate reuse and recycling suggestions for hangers. August 24, 2010 |
Regarding our Recycling Bin order page:
it was helpful but it did NOT offer an option for "pick up old one" for my large wheel-based recycle bin (which i need - it cracked) versus the smaller 22 gallon one just above |
The order page has a "pick up old bin" check box only for bins. For reporting broken or missing wheeled paper recycling carts, we provide a link to our contact information so that we can schedule a cart repair for you. August 23, 2010 |
Regarding our Composting and Compost Bin Pickup Location pages:
I cannot see a way [to make these pages better]. The page on how to compost was crystal clear - a quick, easy, and exceptionally clear and understandable read. The page on bins was equally clear with a superb set of alternative locations for any day of the week. Will pick one up tomorrow.
|
Thanks, and happy composting! August 23, 2010 |
| Is there a way to recycle bubble wrap? |
We do not accept bubble wrap in our recycling program. We wrote to the resident to suggest some reuse alternatives. August 20, 2010 |
Regarding our Reporting Missed Collections page:
Give me someway to make contact on a Friday afternoon. I come home from work, my yard waste recycling is not collected and your page says to report within 2 days of the missed pickup, and the phone number dose not take messages. So it is quite useless.
|
We wrote to the resident to confirm that reports must be made within two business days, and not two calendar days. If your collection day is Friday, you may report a miss through the following Tuesday. August 20, 2010 |
Regarding our How to Recycle/Dispose of... homepage:
I selected link for "Requesting Blue Bin" and was directed instead to "Composting Bins." I want to request the larger size Blue Bin.
|
We wrote to the resident to provide the link for ordering blue bins. The problem turned out to be a browser setting on the resident's computer. But, to make the link for blue bins easier to find on our Web Store, we renamed it from "Bins and Containers" to "Recycling Bins and Containers". August 20, 2010 |
Regarding the our Contact Us page:
I wanted to send an email and there are no such contacts listed.
|
The Montgomery County Customer Service Center (MC311) now serves as our point of contact. Dial 3-1-1 to contact MC311. August 20, 2010 |
List those specific items that can be picked up at curbside.
|
This existing page on curbside recycling summarizes what we collect in our weekly curbside collection service. August 19, 2010 |
Regarding the County's Online Services section:
Improve links to the proper services-online, attempt to contact ENV, POL, ? ref: complaint of pet waste at ajoining property for 2 years + Air pollution, water run off etc...Person/property owner in past shown impulsive behavior towards my family. Would like to stay anonymous as the complainant for the reason mentioned.
Searched all departments and documents with zero results in online services.
|
We do not maintain the County's Online Services section. We contacted the resident with information about the Department of Police Animal Services Section, which handles pet complaints. August 19, 2010 |
| Provide directions to dump! |
The Map and Directions page for our Solid Waste Transfer Station and Processing Facility already contains text and visual directions to this facility. You may use the Google map on the page to create customized travel directions. August 19, 2010 |
Regarding our Ttrash Service homepage:
Make it easy and quick to look up the DAY on which trash is collected in my neighborhood.
|
We added the link to our Recycling/Trash Collection Day Lookup to this page. August 19, 2010 |
Regarding our Transfer Station pages:
I *used* to be able to call and speak to a person *on the weekends during hours of operation* to ask about bringing in certain items, and where to take them.
There is no longer even a # in the white pages, either in the govt. section, or in the regular section. Waste Mgmt. has 3 #'s, but no one answers. There used to be a regular listing for the station. I looked under *montgomery*, *solid*& *waste*.
I will now get into my overloaded van and use time and gas from Silver Spring.
I have no idea if my load will be accepted.
This is a new low in customer service from one the richest counties in the nation.
In general, all county web pages are *overloaded* with info making it hard to locate a specific item.
I clicked on hours of operation for the Xfer site, and there was *no* info available.
Pathetic. It's no wonder I see spontaneous dumping occur.
|
We referred this comment to our Transfer Station staff for followup with the resident. The Transfer Station phone number is available on the hours of operation (which is also the destination for our "materials accepted" link) and map and directions pages. August 18, 2010 |
Regarding our Collection Services homepage:
Looking for information on how to get the free mulch for county residents .. need a bag, shovel, hours, etc
|
Information about our Neighborhood Mulch Preserves is already available on our website. Our yard trim shortcut - www.montgomerycountymd.gov/yardtrim - is a fast way to find the mulch page. August 18, 2010 |
Regarding our Bulk Trash Collection page:
Clearly show the pick up number for Bulk Pick Up for County residents on the main Bulk Pick Up page - you show "out of County" and "TTY" numbers -- I had to go to several pages before I found what I thought was the "general" bulk number for County residents.
|
As stated on our bulk trash page, please call the Montgomery County Customer Service Center at 3-1-1 to schedule a bulk trash pick-up. August 19, 2010 |
| Were to damp like unwanted wood and ext. [sic] |
We contacted the resident for more information in order to respond more specificially. For example, we have existing information about firewood, stumps and tree sections, and lumber. August 18, 2010 |
Regarding our Storm Cleanup page:
I bagged leaves in paper recycling bags (only three) and they were not picked up with the other recycling today. These bags were not heavy by any means. Am I doing something wrong? This is a new neighborhood in [location given]. I've put yard waste out here before and not had it picked up. I've recently moved here from the other side of Germantown and we never had this problem there. Are there different rules for this neighborhood? Thanks so much. |
We contacted the resident and instructed her to call the Montgomery County Customer Service Center at 3-1-1 to report the missed collection. We added a link from our storm cleanup page to our reporting missed collections page. August 13, 2010
|
Regarding our Paper Recycling page:
Please give instructions on this page, or the corresponding page dealing with foil products, on whether foil bags in which ground coffee and beans are often sold are recyclable. |
We are checking with a program manager for clarification. When we receive his response, we'll update the relevant page. August 13, 2010 |
|
Most things list a recylcing [sic] code. sometimes things are not accepted that I have put out but have a recycle #. I was looking for a list of those numbers that you are taking and those that you will reject. thanks
|
We sent the link for our detailed plastics recycling page to the commenter. August 12, 2010 |

Regarding a page in our Use It Again Guide:
I was trying to find an organization to donate unused medication to but none of the resources on this page were helpful for me. Then with some additional research on my own, I went to the Maryland Board of Pharmacies website and found a listing of board approved drop-off sites for donated medication. They are happy to accept my medication so I suggest you add this resource to your listing.
I called one of the pharmacies and they are happy to redistrube [sic] the meds to a needy patient. The National Conference of State Legislature has some interesting information on a relatively new drug donation program for Maryland to keep unused meds out of our water system and landfills. You might want to check that out also and add it to your resource listing.
http://www.ncsl.org/default.aspx?tabid=14425
Good luck. Your website has the right idea. Just needs some more information that is useful. Thanks! |
We added an entry for the Maryland Prescription Drug Repository Program to our Use It Again Guide. August 12, 2010 |
Regarding a page in our Use It Again Guide:
It was very helpful. I was looking for a charity to accept large furniture with home pick-up. |
Thank you! August 11, 2010 |
| Will keep trying but I cannot find an online place to make comments. No web mail only snail mail. Good for recycling, avoid emails and support the post office |
The Montgomery County Customer Service Center (MC311) accepts comments for the Division of Solid Waste Services. Dial 3-1-1 to contact MC311. August 11, 2010
|
| Regarding our Transfer Station detail page: please include information on how to dispose of washers, dryers (gas & electric) and dishwashers. |
The bottom of this page lists materials accepted at this facility. We renamed "appliances" to "appliances (refrigerators, washing machines, etc.)" and significantly revised our scrap metal recycling page. August 11-12, 2010 |
| Regarding our Bulk Trash page: Please have the correct phone number for county residents to call the bulk trash pick up services.
The 2 phone numbers on the page are not that number - I had to give my information twice and be transferred to the Bulk Trash scheduling people to make a trash pickup appointment. This would be why most people are coming to the page on Bulk Trash Pick UP. |
We verified that phone number was correct as published. To try to clarify that residents calling from inside Montgomery County should now call the three-digit Customer Service Center number, we revised it from "311" to "3-1-1". August 11, 2010 |
| Regarding our Transfer Station homepage: How do I access the facility? |
We renamed the "Map" link to "Map and Directions". August 11, 2010 |
| Regarding our Collection Day Lookup Tool: Put in valid addresses and general vicinities, i.e., Chevy Chase West, Bradley Blvd. |
The tool uses a combination of street number, street address, and street type to determine the collection day. We will investigate solutions for cross-referencing this street information with map data to present neighborhood details. August 11, 2010 |
