FAMILY JUSTICE CENTER OPENS... Congressman Chris Van Hollen gives a congratulatory hug to Montgomery County Councilmember Duchy Trachtenberg for her efforts that led to creation of the Montgomery County Family Justice Center at the May 18 grand opening. The center, which is the first in the immediate suburbs of Washington, D.C., places numerous necessary services for domestic violence victims in one location at 600 Jefferson St. in downtown Rockville. More than 120 people attended the opening ceremonies, including Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, Montgomery County Council President Phil Andrews, County Councilmembers Marc Elrich and George Leventhal and State's Attorney John McCarthy. One of the speakers was Cheryl Kravitz, co-chair of Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley's Family Violence Council and herself a survivor of domestic violence. (go to the Center's Website)
