2011 Walk & Ride Challenge
Walk & Ride Challenge Winners Announced
The results are in from the first-ever Walk & Ride Challenge competition for Silver Spring and Friendship Heights. We added up each team member's total steps and divided by the number of members on the team to determine the highest points per team.
Drum roll, please...

The team with the second highest average steps overall was "Be Well Work Well with Family & Nursing Care #1" from Family & Nursing Care, which included team members Jin Fox, Jenelle Kirton, Nytika Cooper, Danielle Averett and Heather Gaydarick.

Great Prizes: Grand prize-winning team members receive a $100 VISA gift card and $50 in SmarBenefits value. Second-place team members receive a $50 VISA gift card.
Great Turnout: The Walk & Ride Challenge drew over 50 teams and 300 participants from Friendship Heights and Silver Spring. It was an invigorating event for both communities.
Great Results: A number of participants say they lost weight from their walking, and a few have even incorporated walking permanently into their daily routine. The Challenge also drew more participants into riding Metrorail, Metrobus, and RideOn sometimes instead of driving alone to work all week.
Next Year: Based on this year's participation, the Challenge will very likely return for 2012. With holiday food about to tempt us all over the next couple of months, the walking habits formed by our 2011 Challenge teams will hopefully help them maintain their fitness goals.
