Current Phase: Grand Opening
2nd District Police Station
This project provided for design and construction of a replacement district station to serve the Bethesda Chevy-Chase area and portions of Potomac and Silver Spring included in the 2nd Police District.
The old Bethesda Police Station was constructed in 1961 and contains 21,707 gross sf. The station site was constrained with limited staff parking and no public parking. The station had experienced considerable deferred maintenance and required major building repairs. District Police Stations are the center for police services for each district. They provide the base of support facilities for all District Beat Teams and serve as the “parent facility” for all satellite facilities. The District Police Stations operate 24 hours a day, 7-days a week, on a continuous basis with 3 shifts.
The new 2nd District Police Station was built at 4823 Rugby Avenue, Bethesda, on a vacant lot that backs to Public Parking Garage #35. The new facility is a 4-story, 28,000 sf structure that utilizes part of the public parking garage for police parking. The facility was designed to conform to Montgomery County standards, including meeting green building and sustainability goals, energy guidelines, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The project complies with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines for LEED Silver certification
The new station was dedicated in a ribbon cutting ceremony on January 22, 2018 and opened as the new police station on February 15, 2018. Ownership of the former station site was transferred to StonebridgeCarras to be redeveloped with a 500,000 sf project that will include an office building and hotel.
