Current Phase: Design

The architect has developed the scheme that was approved by the community and MCPS into a schematic design. It was presented to the community on April 30, 2014. The same design is scheduled to be presented on May 8, 2014 at 7:00 pm. The April 30, 2014 Community and Stakeholder presentation may he viewed here.

This project is to renovate the Elizabeth Stickley Auditorium in the former Old Blair High School located at 313 Wayne Avenue, at the corner of Wayne Avenue and Dale Drive in Silver Spring, Maryland. This facility currently houses the Silver Spring International Middle School and the Sligo Creek Elementary School. The project will create an auditorium with seating capacity for approximately 750 and four multipurpose classrooms. The project will also upgrade all mechanical and theatrical systems in the auditorium as well as meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other code requirements. The renovated auditorium space will provide opportunities for multiple uses, including Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) use by the schools currently housed in the Old Blair High School facility. Community use will be coordinated through the Community Use of Public Facilities (CUPF) according to the policies of the Interagency Coordinating Board (ICB).

The county had hired a demolition team to remove all hazardous and other unusable materials out of the auditorium. The demolition was successfully completed during the two week break between the end of the school year and summer school. More demolition is required to prepare the auditorium space for the new design. This work remains to be scheduled.
