Ride On Real Time: UPDATE March 12, 2014

The Ride On Real Time smartphone app has undergone a functional upgrade to enhance its usefulness and eliminate known bugs.  The Apple version of the software was released March 4th while the Android version was released in February.  Please download the latest version.

Ride On provides data for the multitude of apps out there that have been written for real time bus arrivals.  We are conducting an evaluation of these apps for ease of use and best features/functions.  These third party apps (e.g. The Transit App, Roadify, Hop Stop) can be found in Apple’s iTunes store and the Android Marketplace.  These apps, as does Ride On Real Time, include information on Ride On, Metrobus, and sometimes rail systems as well.  They usually show when buses are real time or scheduled.

Give & Ride: Sunday, April 6, through Saturday April 12, 2014

Ride On bus passengers can help needy families and receive a free bus ride by donating canned or nonperishable food during Ride On's annual food drive. Riders who donate will ride free during Give and Ride from Sunday, April 6, through Saturday April 12, 2014. During the week, food collection bags will be placed near the fare boxes on all Ride On buses.

The donated food goes to Manna Food Center, Montgomery County's food bank.

Many of Manna's clients who have health problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure would appreciate healthful selections that fit into their food plans. Items such as whole grains pasta and low salt or low sugar foods are good choices. For more ideas, see this list.

Ride On to Change Schedules on Two Routes Starting Monday, January 13, 2014

These two Ride On Routes will have changes effective Monday, January 13, 2014:

Route 94  NEW SERVICE Clarksburg to Germantown MARC Rail Station

This new route connects Clarksburg to MARC Commuter Service providing service to stations such as Rockville, Silver Spring, and Washington, D.C.  The new “Meet the MARC” Route 94 has 10 stops in Clarksburg and provides connections at the MARC Germantown station. See timetable and map of the route.

Route 96  Grosvenor to Rock Spring Park and Montgomery Mall

Minor adjustments were made to the trips that had operated between 7:54 and 8:18 AM departing Grosvenor Metro. Here is the timetable.

Improvements to SmarTrip for Ride On riders

Two changes are coming to Ride On and Metrobus fareboxes beginning today that are intended to make the boarding process a bit faster for bus riders.

For passengers adding value to their SmarTrip card aboard the bus, the first change means it will only take two taps to complete the process versus three previously. On the first tap, passengers can add value. On the second tap, the farebox will add the value to the card and deduct the bus fare in one step. Safeguard features have been added so that riders are not overcharged if they accidently tap their card after adding value, or if they pay their fare first and then add value on board.

The second improvement is a new tone that will sound if a rider's SmarTrip card has less than $1.60 in stored value remaining. The low balance warning tone is intended to remind passengers to add value before they take their next trip to minimize boarding delays.

Riders are encouraged to add value to their SmarTrip cards at Metrorail stations, regional transit stores, select retail locations or the most convenient option, by signing up for Auto Reload at wmata.com/autoreload.

Detour on Route 48 and 59

Beginning January 13, 2014 through Thursday, January 16, 2014  Southlawn  Lane between Gude and N. Horner will be closed because of construction from 8 PM until 5 AM.            Routes 48 and 59 will have to detour.  See maps. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Special Limited Schedule On Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24, 2013

So that our operators may spend time with their families on Christmas Eve, Ride On will limit late evening service. Trips scheduled to depart from the terminal at 10:01 PM or later will NOT operate.  For more information, including the last trips operated, click here for a flyer in English and Spanish.

Schedules Modified for Certain Holidays

Important Information on Schedules for:

On the above holidays, Ride On will operate a modified holiday schedule on these Federal holidays when ridership is far less than a normal weekday. Because we understand that some riders who work for other employers still need to get to work or to other destinations, we will be operating service on every route. Schedules will include fewer trips during the day, but service starts and ends at approximately the same time as a weekday schedule.

Operating the modified holiday schedule more accurately matches service with actual ridership on those holidays, therefore saving costs while also helping the environment.

Click here to view detailed special holiday schedules by route.

Ride On to Modify Some Bus Schedules Starting October 20, 2013

Montgomery County hereby notifies the public and other interested parties that a public forum will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013, starting at 6:30 p.m. and ending after the last speaker at the Upcounty Regional Center, located at 12900 Middlebrook Rd, Germantown, MD.

Ride On is a community-oriented transportation service, providing convenient and accessible public transportation service to the residents of Montgomery County.  As part of our continued goal to provide the best transit service possible, we are proposing the following changes/additions to service:

Route 83 - Extend existing service to future Holy Cross Hospital - Germantown.

The existing Route 83 goes between Germantown Transit Center and Milestone Park & Ride Lot via Dorsey Mill with some service to Germantown MARC Station.  To serve the future Holy Cross Hospital-Germantown, the route will be extended from its current routing along Observation Drive through Montgomery College/Germantown to the Hospital.

Route 94 Meet the MARC.

In order to address a greater demand in the Upcounty region and to connect with MARC commuter train service to Rockville, Silver Spring and Washington, DC, a new routing of the Route 94 Meet the MARC is being proposed to serve residents of the Clarksburg community.  The new Route 94 will originate in the morning in Clarksburg and operate via Clarksburg Rd., Snowden Farm Pkwy., Little Seneca Pkwy., Meadow Mist Rd., Skylark Rd., Ridge Rd., Father Hurley Blvd., Dawson Farm Rd., Liberty Mill Rd. and end at the lower level of Germantown MARC Station.  The last day of service for the existing Route 94 will be Friday, October 18, 2013.
