Morning Discussion Groups

A.  How to fund/support your village:

This session will investigate different approaches for funding a Village including business sponsorship, grants, fees and general fund raising campaigns. Short presentations will be made by Villages followed by an interactive discussion.  Presenters will discuss the approach, issues/considerations and success factors.

B.  Legal considerations for villages:

Whether your village is developing or active, there are always legal matters to consider such as -- Must the village incorporate and apply for nonprofit status? Does the village need to insure its board and volunteers? What is the extent of liability when partnering with another organization? What are the legal protections offered to volunteers by our state laws? All these and other questions will be discussed in this session.

C.  What services should your village offer

This session focuses on services being provided by our villages: community building as a service; “traditional” services such as transportation, household help, organizing help, social visiting; and services that require special skills, such as medical note taking and/or consultations on specific issues.  Discussion will focus on why a village selects what services to provide, how service requests and delivery are managed, concerns of village leadership, users and volunteers, outcomes, and lessons learned.

Afternoon Discussion Groups

 

A.  Volunteer training and recruitment

The panelists in this session will share their experiences in three very important aspects of the relationship between villages and their volunteers – how volunteers are recruited, how they are trained and how they are connected with members in order to provide services to them (in other words, the administration of village volunteer activities).

B.  Partnerships – It takes partnerships to sustain a Village!

This session focuses on Villages sharing information on: the kinds of partnerships Villages have developed such as businesses; faith based outreach; services for seniors; and how they developed them and the mutual benefits they provide; what would they do differently;

C.  It is all about the message: Successful marketing strategies

What is the most effective way to spread the word about your village? How do you find your audience and get them excited about your vision? The panelists in this session will share their marketing strategies as well as challenges in getting the message out.
