Documents To Bring

Bring all medical information related to suspected or active TB you may have received from your doctor or a hospital visit.  This may include current medicines, lab results, TB test results, a copy of recent chest x-ray, and other related medical information.

FAQ's

1.  What are the symptoms of TB? 

  • A cough for more than three weeks
  • Fever or chills for more than three weeks
  • Night sweats
  • Unexplained weight loss of 10 pounds or more
  • Previously had TB or been treated for TB
  • Coughing up blood

If you have these symptoms, contact the TB clinic immediately at 240-777-1800.

2.  What should I do if I think I may have been exposed to someone with TB? 

If you believe you were exposed to someone who has TB, call 240-777-1800 to talk with a nurse.

3.Where can I get a TB test?

TB tests are provided in the TB Program Clinic by appointment only to Montgomery County residents after phone consultation with a TB Program nurse.  The TB Program may also provide a list of community sites that provide TB skin tests.  The TB Program clinic no longer provides TB skin tests.  It is replaced by a blood test that is more sensitive and does not require a return visit for the test result to be determined.  TB blood test clearance cards will be mailed to the customer home address within approximately 5-7 business days.
 
4.How do I get an appointment?

Please call 240-777-1800 weekdays, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. to schedule an appointment with the TB Program Clinic.  Messages may be left at this number and a team member will return the call within one business day.

5.  Can I get a TB test if I’m pregnant? 

A pregnant woman can get TB clearance by x-ray if she is at least at her 20th week of pregnancy with a note from her physician approving the x-ray test. .

6.  I am a physician in the community, how do I make a referral to the TB Clinic?

Doctor’s offices, clinics and hospitals can refer individuals by calling 240-777-1800 and asking to speak to the intake nurse.  Referrals can also be faxed to 240-777-4899.  If you fax a referral, the intake nurse will call you back if more information is needed.

7.  How do I report an inter-jurisdictional TB case or contact to a case?

Referrals from outside Montgomery County for residents of Montgomery County can be made by calling 240-777-1800 and asking to speak to the intake nurse.  Referrals can also be faxed to 240-777-4899.  If you fax a referral, the intake nurse will call you back if more information is needed.
