Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Partnership (VITA)

The VITA Partnership delivers free tax preparation services to low and moderate income fa.m.ilies and individuals.  Volunteer tax preparers are IRS-certified and volunteers prepare and electronically file income tax forms and assist taxpayers in claiming special credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child  Tax Credit.  The VITA Partnership promotes EITC outreach, banking and asset building, financial education and referrals to public and community resources.

The Community Action Agency's partners include the City of Gaithersburg's Bank On initiative and Fa.m.ily Services, Inc.; the City of Rockville; the Internal Revenue Service (IRS); the Maryland CASH Ca.m.paign; and the University of Maryland's Extension Service.

The target population for the VITA Partnership is fa.m.ilies and individuals earning less than $50,000 annually.   The Partnership works with public and community providers to assure access for individuals with disabilities.

Documents to Bring for VITA Free Tax Preparation:

  • Government issued ID (i.e., Valid Driver’s License, Passport, Age of Majority Card)
  • Original Social Security Card or Individual Tax Identification Notice (ITIN) for each member of your fa.m.ily. (If you do not have ITINs, we will help you obtain one).
  • All W2 forms, forms 1098, 1099, and other documents regarding income.
  • If filing jointly, your spouse must be present.
  • Copy of last year’s tax return (if applicable).
  • Statement of annual child care expenses prepared by the provider, with their tax ID (Social Security or EIN number).
