Pools and Spas
COVID-19 Guidance
Effective March 16, 2020, the State of Maryland Governor issued an amended executive order to close all fitness centers, including aquatic venues, to the general public.
As a result of this order, the State of Maryland, Bureau of Environmental Health, issued the follow statement regarding pools:
"To accommodate the intent of the Governor's order and in the interest of protecting their patrons, every pool and spa under Maryland's Public Pools and Spas regulations, COMAR 10.17.01, should follow the example of fitness centers and voluntarily close."
Effective March 19, 2020, the State of Maryland Governor issued another amended executive order reducing the number of individuals permitted at gatherings from 50 or less, to no more than 10 people at all locations or venues.
Effective March 30, 2020, the State of Maryland Governor issued a fourth amended executive order directing residents to stay in their homes and for non-essential businesses in the state to close.
While we do not know when pools will be permitted to open, we ask swimming pool operators to continue with all pre-opening maintenance and repairs while we wait for further information from the State. Pool operators should contact Licensure & Regulatory Services to schedule a pre-opening inspection, so that when the executive order is lifted, you will be ready to operate. Inspections are being scheduled.
We urge pool operators to prepare now as there may be a wait for inspections if you wait until an actual opening date.
