Erica Dean

Erica serves as the Data and Research Manager at DC Action for Children, a non-profit providing data analysis and policy leadership on critical issues facing DC children and their families. The organization focuses on issue areas of early child care and education, health, family well-being and child welfare. Previously, as a policy analyst in Hartford, CT, her work centered around advocating for low-income youth and their families, concentrating specifically on children with incarcerated parents. 
In addition to her current role at DC Action, she is also a doctoral candidate at the University of Albany School of Social Welfare. For her dissertation, she is conducting a qualitative research study to explore the usage, beliefs about and implementation fidelity of drug testing in homeless shelters throughout the DMV-metro region. Erica has experience with systems evaluations, qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, managing clinical trials, policy analysis and advocacy, writing and presenting legislative testimony, as well as teaching at the graduate level. Erica holds a B.S. in Psychology from Union College and an MHS with a concentration in Mental Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She currently resides in Rockville.
