Electric Vehicle Charging Station Permits
SUBJECT:
Bill 11-14, Buildings - Electric Vehicle Charging Station Permits Expedited Review,
sponsored by Councilmembers Berliner, Floreen, and Riemer, Council Vice President Leventhal,
and Councilmembers EIrich, Andrews, and Navarro, is scheduled to be introduced on January 28,
2014. A public hearing is tentatively scheduled for February 11,2014 at 7:30 p.m.
Bill 11-14 would require the Department of Permitting Services to implement an expedited
review process for permits to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and require the
Department to charge reduced fees for those permits. Electric vehicle charging stations
will
be
more common and necessary as EV usage increases.
Councilmember Berliner explained the purpose of this Bill in his January 14
memorandum describing his proposed energy/environmental package. See ©20 of Bill 2-14,
Agenda Item SA.

DESCRIPTION:
Expedite Review
Would require the Department of Permitting Services to implement an
expedited review process for permits to install electric vehicle (EV)
charging stations, and to charge reduced fees for those permits.
EV charging stations will be more common and necessary as EV
usage increases, but obtaining a building permit can be subject to a
long and costly permitting process.
To create an expedited and less costly permitting process for EV
charging stations.
