Spon sor Councilmember Floreen, is scheduled to be introduced on
Marc h 6. A public hearing is

Bill 4-18 would replace the requirement for a carbon dioxide detec

Carbon mon oxid e (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) are often confused
. The nam es sound
similar, they both are colorless and odorless gases, and at high concentra
tions, both can be deadly.
The difference is that CO2 is a common, naturally occurring gas requ
ired for all plant and animal
life. CO is not common. It is most often a byproduct of the oxygen-st
arved combustion of fuel.
Carbon mon oxid e gas is a poisonous gas. Exposure to more than 1,000
parts per milli on of
the gas for just a few hour s can cause death. On the other hand, exposure
to the same concentration
of carbon dioxide wou ld not cause death.
