PURPOSE
1.0 To establish policy and procedure for the utilization of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Honor Guard.

APPLICABILITY
2.0 Members of the DFRS Honor Guard.
2.1
This policy was developed in cooperation with Montgomery County International Association of Firefighters Local 1664.

POLICY
3.0 The Department will maintain a permanent Honor Guard to participate in ceremonial details, funerals for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel and represent the Department as authorized by the Director.
3.1 The Honor Guard shall be comprised of personnel from the fire and rescue services at large as appointed by the Director or designee. Selection emphasis will be on personal appearance and grooming. A status of at least Firefighter/Rescuer II and the recommendation, in writing from their Senior Career Officer, to the OIC of the Honor Guard, shall be minimum requirements.
3.2 The Honor Guard will be organized as follows:
  1. Officer-in-Charge:    Appointed by the Director
  2. Assistant OIC:         Appointed by the Director
  3. Color Guard Detail:  Lieutenant and/or Sergeant and four or more Honor Guard personnel.
  4. Funeral and Special Events Detail:    A Lieutenant, Sergeant and eight Honor Guard personnel.
3.3 The Honor Guard will hold practice sessions of at least one day every two months and at other times as deemed necessary by the Assistant OIC.
3.4 The Honor Guard will be utilized at the direction of the Director, or in the Director's absence, the First Deputy Chief.
