The Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) is comprised of several sections responsible for investigating rapes, sexual offenses, domestic violence, elder/vulnerable adult abuse, and crimes against children.

SVID Main Office Investigative Sections

 

Child Abuse/Sexual Assault Section

The Child Abuse/Sexual Assault Section is responsible for investigating rape, sexual offenses, and physical and sexual abuse committed against children under the age of 18 by a suspect who cared for or had custody of the child.

 

Child Exploitation Unit

The Child Exploitation Unit investigates crimes similar to the Child Abuse/Sexual Assault Section when the crimes are committed by a stranger.  Additionally, the Child Exploitation Unit is a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force which handles Internet-related child exploitation crimes.  The unit also investigates tips originating from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline.

 

Sex Offender Registry Unit

The Sex Offender Registry Unit is tasked with managing and enforcing the Sex Offender Registry for Montgomery County.

 

Missing Children/Runaway Unit

The Missing Children/Runaway Unit investigates all cases of runaway, missing, or abducted children to include parental abductions.

 

SVID Family Justice Center Investigative Sections

The investigators at the Family Justice Center are co-located with members of the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and various partner agencies. 

 

Sex Assault Unit

The Sex Assault Unit investigates rape and felony sexual assault cases where the victim is 18 years of age or older.

 

Domestic Violence/Elder Abuse Unit

The Domestic Violence/Elder Abuse Unit investigates stalking, kidnapping, burglary, and first-degree assault committed by and against current or former intimate partners.  This unit also investigates crimes committed against the elderly or vulnerable adults where the suspect is a caretaker.
