FAQ
TeenWorks is a year-round volunteer and employment program for Montgomery County teens and young adults, including high school students who are at least 15 years old and young adults 18 to 24 who have never been employed.
Teens are employed by Montgomery County Recreation and placed in public sector and non-profit jobs throughout the county. They can work up to 4 hours each weekday or 8 hours on weekend days during the school year, earning minimum wage. Teens are placed in meaningful work roles, which allow them to develop critical, marketable skills. TeenWorks opens the door to experiential learning opportunities and facilitates connections to valuable community resources.
Teenworks is now accepting applications for both volunteer and employment opportunities.
TeenWorks jobs require one year of service. Our goal is to provide you with the skills and work experience needed to move on to the next level. After successfully completing 300 hours of service, TeenWorks Graduates will receive a certificate of completion and a positive letter of reference.
You may be able to if you were you an outstanding TeenWorks employee. There are a few advanced level TeenWorks positions that require employees to be in their second year of service. These positions are earned based on your success in year one. All returning participants must re-interview for the advanced level TeenWorks assignments.
All youth participate in job readiness training as well as ongoing skill-building workshops and the opportunity to attend college tours, financial literacy training (Montgomery County TCU), healthy cooking classes and a variety of career building internships. Participants receive instruction in resume writing, office etiquette, customer service, professionalism, safety on the job, teamwork, and excellence in the workplace. Participants are certified in first aid and CPR.
Students also take part in challenging teambuilding activities like canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and white water rafting. These activities promote self-esteem, confidence, group cohesion and problem solving.
TeenWorks offers both volunteer and paid positions.
TeenWorks participants in paid positions earn the minimum wage.
TeenWorks volunteer participants earn SSL hours.
Summer participants are placed on one of our Teams: Tech Connect, Special Events,
Conservation Jobs Corps, and Camp Rec site apprenticeships.

TeenWorks Jobs page for more details.
