50+ Volunteer Network - Info for Organizations

The Montgomery County 50+ Volunteer Network is a cutting edge county initiative housed at the Montgomery County Volunteer Center.  It focuses on leveraging the professional skills of the rapidly growing 50+ population as a resource for nonprofits and government agencies.

How does the program work?

Through personal consultations with both parties, the program effectively matches agencies needing specific assistance with skilled volunteers seeking purposeful opportunities.

How is this program different from other programs offered at the Volunteer Center?

For several years, the Volunteer Center operated the Pro Bono Consultant Program for nonprofits requesting skilled volunteers for short-term projects, and still offers the Senior Corps RSVP (Retired Senior and Volunteer Program) whose partner organizations offer volunteer opportunities for seniors 55+.  The 50+ Volunteer Network includes both programs, takes the best practices of each, and broadens the scope of the volunteer opportunities available. It’s part of the Volunteer Center’s effort to promote and expand volunteerism in Montgomery County!

Can I still submit a Pro Bono project request?

Of course!  The 50+ Volunteer Network includes many prospects who want to offer their expertise in accounting, management, writing and editing, IT support, strategic planning and other professional fields to undertake short-term, outcome-based projects.

What makes the 50+ Volunteer Network different than similar services or posting an opportunity on a website?

Unlike other services and website postings, we do most of the work for you.  We assess your needs, recruit and place effective skilled volunteers, check on their progress, and ensure that your investment of time and energy is worthwhile -- all at no cost to you.

How does my agency qualify to be a part of the program?

As long as you are a local nonprofit or Montgomery County government agency registered with the Montgomery County Volunteer Center, you can become part of this network.  We do want to ensure that your organization has the resources to support, supervise, and train the volunteers placed with you.

What's the benefit to my agency?

Skilled volunteers are a valuable resource to organizations that want to expand their services or maintain their offerings in light of financial constraints and cut backs. While you may recruit your own, our program offers a placement service based on consultations with both you and the skilled volunteer, as well as on-going support.

What types of assistance can your volunteers offer?

Our volunteers offer a range of assistance from ongoing program management and support to short-term consulting projects and direct services to clients.

What types of skilled volunteers do you recruit?

We recruit skilled volunteers who have experience as managers, editors, board members, grant writers, accountants, strategic planners, marketers, web designers, administrative assistants, social workers, IT professionals, teachers, counselors, and more.

What's the cost for this service?

It is free to nonprofits and government agencies registered with the Montgomery County Volunteer Center.
