How to Become a Volunteer
 

Effective August 1, 2015, we will take a break from accepting NEW volunteer applications so we can develop our current volunteer program and make some exciting changes and additions to the program! Stay tuned for announcements! We will be working on placing applicants who have submitted an application prior to this date. We will make a website announcement when we are accepting new applications. We are still looking for Foster Program volunteers!
 

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center! Here are some of the basics to get you started:

  • Review What to Know Before you Volunteer, the Volunteer Policy, and Adult Volunteer Opportunities
     
  • Please review the Volunteer Manual.  Upon reviewing the Volunteer Manual, proceed to the  Volunteer Agreement to affirm that you have read the manual and agree with its terms

  • If you wish to participate in the Foster Program in addition to our general Volunteer Program, please complete a Foster Application too.
     
  • Applications are selected based on availability, current needs of the shelter, interests of the volunteer, etc.
     
  • The Volunteer Coordinator will schedule telephone interviews with applicants.
     
  • The Volunteer Coordinator will assign an orientation date.
    • All volunteers must attend an orientation and complete all necessary volunteer paperwork.
    • Orientation is designed to provide you with an overview of the facility, volunteer program, volunteer opportunities, general safety protocol, our expectations and more. A tour of the facility is offered as well.
    • Volunteer orientation is offered monthly and there is usually a waiting period due to the volume of applicants that we receive.
       
  • If chosen based on our current needs, applicants will undergo a background check.
     
  • Pending results of the background check, applicants will be awarded an open volunteer position.
     
  • Volunteers must complete all necessary training(s) for their assigned position(s).
