Canine Section

The Sheriff’s Office uses trained canines to detect explosives, weapons, narcotics and to serve as a general deterrent within the Circuit Courthouse. The canine unit also responds to mutual aid calls from the Montgomery County Department of Police, the Montgomery County Department of Fire and Rescue Services and other law enforcement agencies when necessary. Deputies routinely patrol the Courthouse, maintaining a high level of visibility, ensuring the safety of employees and visitors using the Courthouse.

In September of 2011, after receiving a extremely generous grant from NFL Quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger and his foundation, The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Canine Section was featured on the foundation’s website.
