Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) Headquarters in Montgomery County

Earlier this year, President Biden proposed the creation of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) to improve the U.S. government’s ability to speed biomedical and health research. Public Law 117-103 was enacted on March 15, 2022, authorizing the establishment of ARPA-H within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ARPA-H is a new $1 billion federal agency focused on accelerating biomedical research to more quickly discover prevention and treatment options which will improve health outcomes across a broad range of indications for a significant number of Americans.

On December 12, 2022, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Montgomery County Council President Evan Glass sent a letter to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Beccera and ARPA-H Director Renee Wegrzyn advocating for Montgomery County, Maryland to be named the permanent headquarters location for the new Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). These Montgomery County leaders were joined by more than sixty business and academic organizations in expressing their support for a Montgomery County headquarters location.
