HARP
Change your home to suit your life!
HARP (Home Accessibility Rehabilitation Program) is a free program designed to assist people with renovating their homes to make them more accessible to older adults or those with disabilities. While there are income limits to the program, older adults and disabled individuals of any age can qualify. Work will be performed by local non-profit groups Habitat for Humanity or Rebuilding Together.
Who Should Apply
- Be a current resident of Montgomery County
- Home must be owner occupied for at least one year
- At least one permanent occupant of the home must be aged 65 years old or above, or disabled
- Household income must be at 50% or below Area Median Income ( see chart)
- Be current on the mortgage
- Have a current homeowner's insurance policy
What Does HARP Cover?
It covers home repairs and in-home accomodations such as
- Entrance Upgrades -Entrance Ramps, no step entrances, wider doorways, hand railings
- Stairlifts or ceiling lifts
- Bathrooms - walk in or roll in showers, grab bars, tub cuts, comfort height toilets
- Wheelchair accomodations for the kitchen (lower cabinets and work surfaces, accessbile appliances)
- Door handles
- Smart Lighting or other controls which are accessible

Both were chosen to operate this program based on their qualifications and dedication to improving the quality of housing in Montgomery County.

What Happens After Your Apply?
The non-profit you selected will review your application and you will be notified by phone or email. Then, they will visit your home to evaluate what repairs would best suit your needs. Once the scope of the work is determined, they will get to work!
