How to Apply to the MPDU Program

Ten things you need to understand before you participate in the Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit (MPDU) program for rental or purchase.

Rental

  1. Persons interested in the MPDU rental program must apply directly to the MPDU complex of their choice. The management company at these complexes will provide an application, verify income and credit history, and determine eligibility or noneligibility to rent an MPDU apartment.
  2. Apartment Complexes with MPDUs - please look under the column entitled "Vacancies (BM)" which lists Below Market (BM) rate apartments, such as MPDUs.  For the most current information, or if you have questions, please call the apartment complex directly at the phone number listed.
  3. DHCA no longer provides applications for MPDU rentals.
  4. Current, valid Certificates of Eligibility previously issued by DHCA will continue to be honored by MPDU rental complexes until the expiration date printed on the certificate.

Important changs to the MPDU Program and Procedures

  1. Persons interested in the MPDU purchase program for the first time, must attend three free seminars before applying:
    • First, a first-time Homebuyer's Class sponsored by the County (persons completing this seminar will receive a "Certificate of Completion" which is required before scheduling the "MPDU Orientation Seminar").
    • Second, a "MPDU Orientation Seminar" conducted by DHCA at which the MPDU application will be distributed (Homebuyer's Seminar certificate of completion required to schedule MPDU Application Seminar).
    • Third, A "MPDU Application Session" held at DHCA at which the application and back-up documents will be collected.
  2. DHCA no longer mails applications for the MPDU purchase program. Applications are only provided to persons who have completed the first two required seminars.
  3. Persons with a current, valid Certificate of Eligibility previously issued by DHCA do not need to attend the first two classes; however, they must still attend an MPDU Application Session to turn in their renewal application and supporting documents.
