School Based Health and Wellness Centers
School based health and wellness centers work with children and their families in the school community to reach their full potential by offering coordinated medical care, preventive and psychosocial services, quality counseling, positive youth development, and health education, in a culturally sensitive and confidential manner. The medical health care component serves students enrolled in the schools as well as their uninsured siblings, and Care for Kids enrollees living within the school’s zip codes. Mental health and social services are available to students enrolled in the schools and their families. Each site is staffed with a school nurse, a certified nursing assistant, a site coordinator, a nurse practitioner, a pediatrician, a case manager, and a licensed mental health counselor or therapist.
