Instructions to apply for a seat on a Board, Committee, or Commission (BCC)

  1. Click the “ View and Apply for Vacancies ” link.
  2. Review the vacancy notice.
    Regional citizens advisory board applicants: To view and identify the County regional service area in which you reside or work, please click the Regional Service Center Lookup map link and enter your address in the box that says “ Enter a Mont. Co. address.” The region in which the address is located will appear on the map. Please note that the BCC (Bethesda Chevy Chase) region is the same as the Western Montgomery County region.
  3. At the bottom of the page click the “ Apply for this Board” (or Committee or Commission).
  4. Complete the application form. Fields with an asterisk (*) are required. There are 5 sections to complete. At the end of every session click the “ Next” button.
  5. In the field that says “Please submit a brief cover letter here to complete your application”, drag, drop or browse your files to upload your cover letter. The letter should state why you are applying to this particular board. The letter should be addressed to: The Honorable Marc Elrich, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, MD 20850 . The document should be in PDF or Word (.docx), jpg, or png format.
  6. In the field that says “Please submit a brief resume here to complete your application”, drag, drop or browse your files to upload your resume. The resume should be no more than four pages. The resume document should be in  PDF or Word (.docx), jpg. or png format.
  7. After you complete the application form, click the "Next" button.
  8. You will have a chance to view your application before submitting it. To edit your application, you must click the “Edit” button at the top right corner of the section you wish to edit.
  9. Click “Print Summary” to print your application.
  10. Click the "I'm Not a Robot" checkbox.
  11. Click the "Submit Application" button.
  12. Please note, once you click the “Submit Application” button, you will not be able to access the submitted application again. You may send an email to Beth Gochrach if you need to make any changes.

After Completing the Application Process

  • For most vacancies, interviews are conducted by a nominating committee of the BCC and its staff liaison.
  • The nominating committee makes recommendations for appointment to the County Executive.
  • The County Executive makes final decisions regarding all appointments.
  • Once appointments are made, applicants are notified of the County Executive's decision. This process usually takes three to four months to complete.
