Help Applying for Citizenship

Alert: We strongly recommend that you have an attorney review your citizenship application before you file, especially if you have had any contact with law enforcement, or if you have spent long periods of time outside the U.S.

For legal organizations that may be able to help you with your citizenship application, visit our Immigration Legal Services page and enter "Citizenship" in the FIND box.

The following legal organizations have dedicated citizenship programs to help people apply for citizenship for free or low-cost:  

  • Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center
    • (202) 393-3572, Main Extension: 22  (English and other languages not listed below)
      • Korean: Ext. 21
      • Vietnamese: Ext. 20
      • Hindi/Urdu: Ext. 19
      • Chinese: Ext. 18
    • Attorneys can answer questions and provide assistance with filling out citizenship applications, including fee waivers, if applicable.  All nationalities welcome.
    • Help can be provided over the phone, and in person at the Gaithersburg Library (by appointment only).
  • CASA (Citizenship Program): 240-491-5765
    • Requires CASA membership.
