PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT (PSA) VIDEO CONTEST

Description
This contest challenges students to create an original Public Service Announcement (PSA) video as part of an anti-vaping campaign. The goal is to promote awareness of the dangers of vaping (the use of e-cigarettes, Juul). Participants are encouraged to be creative! 
 
Eligibility
This contest is open to all 6th - 12th grade students living in Montgomery County. Students can enter the contest on their own or as a group; however, students may only participate in ONE entry.  If a student in any way participates in more than one PSA video, these entries will not be considered for evaluation and prizes.
 
Entry Rules
  • All submissions must have a title.  
  • All submissions must be 50-70 seconds in length.
  • All submissions must be uploaded to Google Drive, Dropbox, YouTube, or similar program.
  • All submissions must address at least 2 health dangers (physical, emotional, social, psychological) associated with vaping.  For more information on the dangers of vaping visit the U.S. Surgeon General or the CDC website.
  • All submissions must include the following 2 resources to help youth to stop vaping: Text DITCHJUUL to 887-09 or the quitSTART app. 
  • Submissions may NOT include youth or individuals vaping or using tobacco products. No vaping or tobacco products or paraphernalia may be displayed.
  • Submissions may NOT include ANY copyrighted music, audio/video clips, characters, logos, or other protected material. Videos may include music only if it is considered “open source” music, or if it is composed and played by a student (or students) in the group.
  • Complete the Online Contest Submission Form (best viewed in Google Chrome) where you will submit your video
 
Evaluation and Prizes:
All submissions will be reviewed by an expert judging panel, with cash prizes (Visa Card or gift card) going to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and Honorable Mention prizes going to 4th and 5th place. A “Fan Favorite” will also be selected from the Top 5 via public vote the last two weeks of January and will receive an additional prize.
 
The winning PSA Videos will be announced in February at a Montgomery County Council Session.  Winning students will be invited to attend the session and will be acknowledged by County Council.  More information about this event will be given to contest entrants upon receipt of their submission.

To Enter:
  1. Create your video, and make sure it follows all of the rules listed above.
  2. Upload your video to Google Drive, Dropbox, YouTube, or similar program.
  3. Complete the Online PSA Contest Submission Form, where you will have to answer a few questions and provide a link to your video.
 
 
This anti-vaping, tobacco prevention campaign is a collaboration of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, the Montgomery County Public School system and Healthy Montgomery.  This contest was made possible by the support of Trinity Health, Holy Cross Health, and the Institute for Public Health Innovation through Trinity Health’s Transforming Communities Initiative.
