Office of Food Systems Resilience Grants

The Office of Food Systems Resilience in partnership with the Office of Grants Management has established multiple grant programs to support the implementation of initiatives aligned with The Strategic Plan to End Childhood Hunger. Current grant programs are listed below:

  • FY25 Food as Medicine Grant Program: Applications are now being accepted for Stage One of the FY25 Food as Medicine Grant Program. This funding will support innovative programs that increase access to culturally diverse, medically-relevant, nutritious, and locally produced food for Montgomery County children and households with children ages 0-18 who are: 1) currently at high-risk or actively experiencing diet-related disease and 2) at risk of or currently experiencing food insecurity.   • FY25 Community Food Assistance Program: This program is intended to support active food assistance providers with direct funding and/or Food Staples Program shopping credits to order food for distribution to Montgomery County residents. This program is no longer accepting applications. The updated list of successful grantees is linked below.
  • FY25 School-Based Food Assistance Program: This program is no longer accepting applications. The updated list of successful grantees is linked below. ​

 

 

In December 2023, the Montgomery County Council voted to approve Special Appropriation #24-37 to fund the implementation of programs related to the Strategic Plan to End Childhood Hunger, including:

  • FY24 School-Based Food Assistance Grant Program - $480,000 in grant funding for quickly actionable strategies that address food access challenges amongst families with children in MCPS.
  • FY24 Food as Medicine Grant Program - $450,000 in grant funding for innovative food as medicine programs that address diet-related health challenges in children ages 0-18.
  • FY24 SNAP Outreach Grant Program - $200,000 in grant funding for innovative approaches to connect Montgomery County families that are eligible, but not yet enrolled or maximizing, with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
  • FY24 Resident and Community Gardening Grant Program: $200,000 in grant funding to support initiatives that expand resident and community food production capacity as a means of increasing local food security.

The OFSR’s Grant Hub website will serve as a center of information and resources for grantees working on these initiatives for the fiscal year 2024.
