Piney Branch Road PRSAIn the fall of 2008, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) performed a pedestrian road safety audit (PRSA) along Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring, Maryland, from Flower Avenue to the Montgomery–Prince Georges County line. This stretch of Piney Branch Road was identified as one of Montgomery County’s High Incidence Areas (HIA) for pedestrian collisions. Since the audit was conducted, MCDOT and the Maryland State Highway Administration (MDSHA) have been focused on implementing pedestrian-related safety improvements, which include improvements at the intersections at University Boulevard and Flower Avenue, lighting improvements, sidewalk improvements and pedestrian signal upgrades. In 2009, immediately following the PRSA, MCDOT also partnered with CASA de Maryland to perform targeted education and outreach within the Piney Branch Road HIA, which was followed by additional education efforts in late 2011.
