Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program
The Division of Parking Management now offers a new parking alternative for electric vehicles (EV) in downtown Bethesda, Silver Spring and Wheaton. With the opening of Bethesda Row’s Garage 31 in January, 2015, the division unveiled three EV charging stations that have the capacity to simultaneously recharge six plug-in vehicles.
These publicly accessible stations provide Level 2 chargers, allowing motorists to add 10 to 20 miles of range to their vehicle for every hour of charge time. Additional charging stations have since been installed in Garages 11, 31, 36 and 47 in Bethesda; Garages 5, 7, 9, 60 and 61 in Silver Spring; and Garage 45 in Wheaton.
The charging stations are part of the
system. Drivers can initiate a session by creating a ChargePoint Network account, through the use of a credit card, or by calling the toll-free number displayed on the station. There is a 4-hour time limit for parking in EV charging spaces and vehicles must be plugged in and charging while parked.
