Starred bulletNew Parking Payment System - NOAA Garage (Garage 58)

On or around mid-April 2016, Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Division of Parking Management will modernize the Parking Payment System in the NOAA Garage (Garage 58) in Silver Spring.

The current "single space" parking meters will be removed and replaced with 13 centralized Pay Stations. The New Parking System uses Pay by Space and operates like a single space meter where the customer would have to estimate the time and pre pay prior to leaving to their destination.

Starred bulletWoodmont-Rugby Garage (Garage 35) Redevelopment

Beginning on or about May 1, 2016, Montgomery County Division of Parking (MCDOT) will permanently close a part of the Woodmont-Rugby Garage (Garage 35) for public use. 119 parking spaces (22 short-term; 97 long-term) in the garage will be eliminated and the Rugby Avenue vehicular access will be closed. For additional information on the proposed development of 2nd District Police Station, click here.

Short-term parkers will be accommodated on-site with 30 remaining long-term spaces being converted to short-term for a net increase of eight short-term spaces. This will satisfy the needs of the short-term parkers in the garage.

Some long-term parkers will need to use other parking facilities in the Woodmont Triangle area, including the Auburn-Del Ray (Garage 36) which has plentiful long-term spaces available.

Starred bulletSpring - Colesville Garage (Garage 21) Closure

Spring - Colesville Garage (Garage 21) is a four level, 583 public parking garage that was built in 1967. In 2010 the garage was slated for a major restoration project. Considerable capital was needed for the renovation, repair and reconstruction of the facility. Given the large capital cost and findings from the 2010 Silver Spring Parking Demand Study noted a system wide public parking surplus. Based on the study it was determined to not proceed with the renovations and pursue redevelopment of the property.

An additional Silver Spring Garage 21 Impact Study was done in 2011 and it confirmed that the permanent closure of Garage 21 would not result in a deficit of parking in the surrounding area. In 2012 Montgomery County Department of Transportation proceeded with the sale of Garage 21 to a private developer. The property will be redeveloped into a mixed-use development with office and retail.
