Dedication to Education

The Fire & Rescue Training Academy (FRTA) is located on the Public Safety Training Academy (PSTA) grounds along with the Montgomery County Police Training Academy in Gaithersburg Maryland. The PSTA project was completed and occupied November 2016. The PSTA continues to be one of the most active Training Academies in the State of Maryland.

The PSTA is made up of several buildings for academics and practical skills training. This new facility has two state-of-the-art burn buildings with the latest in natural gas systems. Additionally, with the "High Bay" all areas of firefighting, rescue and EMS operations can now be performed inside a climate controlled environment for continuous training 12 months 365 days a year. The Apparatus Building has 5 drive through bays for the Academy apparatus to be housed in. In the main academic building the Fire/Rescue Classes are held on the 2nd floor with the Montgomery County Police classrooms on the first floor of the facility.

The mission of the Fire and Rescue Training Academy is to provide the highest quality training, instruction and evaluation while supporting the County's current and projected educational initiatives. We strive to deliver comprehensive training programs for career and volunteer fire services and emergency services personnel, designed to create a culture of safety and competency.

The Montgomery County Fire Rescue Training Academy Paramedic Program is now accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) effective March 20, 2015.

MIEMSS Logo

The Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Training Academy ALS Education Program is accredited by the EMS Board based on the site visit and recommendation of the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems for all levels of EMS Training. COMAR 30.04.02 effective September 9, 2014.
