The refurbishment of Bethesda Library is complete and the library is open to the public. The library was renamed the Connie Morella Library in a reopening ceremony that took place on Saturday April 14, 2018. The front of the parking lot has been reconstructed to be in total compliance with ADA access and parking requirements. Landscaping of this area has been completed. The entire roof was replaced as part of the refurbishment work. The interior of the library has been totally repainted and new carpet has been installed throughout the library. Two new glass-walled collaboration rooms have been built to match the existing glass-walled rooms. The workroom has been refurbished with new flooring, paint, and countertop work stations. New interior LED lighting has been installed throughout the library. The restrooms have been totally renovated and made to be ADA compliant. A new chiller for the air conditioning system was installed in March 2018. A new service desk was installed in February 2018 with sit / stand features for circulation and information. A new state of the art exterior monument sign at the Arlington Road entrance has been installed in place of the existing one, after the library reopening on April 14, 2018.
The Bethesda Library Refurbishment project started construction on September 5, 2017. The scope of work of the refurbishment included the following: parking lot ADA access and parking improvements, new roof, new chiller, interior painting and carpet, restroom renovations, addition of 2 collaboration rooms, sit / stand service desks for circulation and information, new LED lighting, limited new furniture and shelving, new workroom flooring, paint, and countertops for work stations, new motorized shades, addition of electric outlets in the floor, reading, and computer tables, and new sit/stand assistive technology workstation, new exterior monument sign. The improvements are being done to improve the function and enhance the appearance of the library in conformance with MCPL plan to refurbish all libraries within the Montgomery County system.
