Celebrate Earth Day - April 22, 2016
Happy Earth Day! Montgomery County strives to integrate good stewardship of the Earth and its resources into everything we do each day. Here are some of the ways we have celebrated Earth Day over the past year:
- Powering all County facilities 100% with clean wind and solar energy.
- Installing enough solar panels on county facilities in 2016 to power 600 homes, save $11 million in energy costs over 20 years, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions as much as taking 870 cars off the road or planting 100,000 trees.
- Fueling 75% of Ride On buses with compressed natural gas – a cleaner, greener, and less expensive alternative to gasoline.
- Saving more than 2 million sheets of paper – that’s 150 trees – per year through double-sided printing, electronic filing, digital ordering, and exclusive use of 35% post-consumer recycled paper.
- Investing $81 million over 6 years in high performance energy efficient public buildings.
- Achieving silver or gold ratings from the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for all public facilities built since 2008.
