Capital Crescent Surface Trail Phase 2

Project Description

The Capital Crescent Surface Trail (CCST) Phase 2 project is a 10-foot-wide shared use path along 47th Street, that connects Willow Avenue to the Elm Street Park Promenade at Elm Street. It will connect to the existing bike lane network at the intersection of Bethesda Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue, and ultimately the northbound portion of the Capital Crescent Trail (CCT) that is being built as part of the Purple Line project.

Project Schedule

The CCST Phase 2 project will commence work in mid-October 2025 and work will be completed in the winter. Utility relocations are currently ongoing. Pedestrian detour and flagging operations will be utilized throughout the duration of the project. Construction activities are permitted Monday – Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The contractor has scheduled the tree removal work on CCST Phase 2 project starting 11/24/25 at 7:00 am. The work will start on the corner of 47th Street and Willow with the large tree removal. The tree removal work will continue on Monday - Wednesday of the next week from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Over the upcoming two weeks, the following operations are scheduled:
The contractor will complete the work on the westside of 47th Street including new curb and gutter, driveway aprons, brick sidewalk and new ADA compliant handi-cap ramps. Weather permitting the contractor will begin work on the eastside of 47th Street on the Park property.

Over the past two weeks ending 1/6/26:
The contractor removed the existing curb and gutter, driveway aprons, handicap ramps and replaced with new on 47th Street westside.
