Conversation Classes

Improve your spoken English, learn vocabulary, and become more comfortable with the language in a free Conversation Class!
Conversation classes offered at the Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center. Drop-in, no registration required.
Conversation classes offered by other Montgomery County organizations.

English Classes Offered by the Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center

Registration for the Spring session ended - classes are full. Please sign up for updates to be notified of the next registration.
Our classes will help you learn practical, every day skills and are taught by skilled volunteer teachers.  

  • Classes begin every Winter, Spring and Fall. Applications accepted in January, April, and August. Space is very limited. First come, first served.
  • Evening classes meet twice a week (Monday – Thursday), and textbooks are required ($30).  Saturday classes meet once a week, no textbook required (free).
  • Application and placement test are required.  We offer Basic through Level 4.
  • Classes meet for 8 weeks.

No time to take a class? Want to learn at your own pace? Study independently - on your phone or your computer through these  online learning resources. Also includes resources for teaching ESOL.

  • Online registration and placement test is required.
  • Students may not register for both Evening and Saturday classes.

Apply for a class

Completion of the application doesn't guarantee a place in the class. As part of the application process you will take a placement test. Your test results will determine the level you'll be placed in.

If we do not have space for you in our classes, we will do our best to help you find an alternative.
