Councilmember Will Jawando is an attorney, activist, and community leader with a lifelong dedication to public service. His career has been crafted by a unique combination of grit, compassion, and integrity. Born in Silver Spring, Maryland to a Nigerian father and white Kansan mother, Will’s bi-racial identity gave him an appreciation for the varied experiences life in America can bring. Raised in a low-income household, he was determined to secure a successful future for himself through the pathway of education.

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be a councilmember? 

Councilmember for a Day is an opportunity for middle and high school students in Montgomery County to share their vision for a better community through digital storytelling. The winner of the video essay challenge will be honored at Council with a proclamation and serve as an honorary councilmember for a day. 

Submit a short video essay about a current event or topic related to your community.  Thursday, November 7, 2024, is the deadline to submit your video essay. 

The winner will serve as Councilmember for a day on  Tuesday, November 19
