Days of Service

There are many days of service throughout the year. Montgomery County Volunteer Center promotes several with our local partners -- MLK Day in January; Earth Month and Good Deeds Day in the spring; and Community Service Day in October. See them here, and even more days of service below.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service - 3rd Monday in January

The MLK Day of Service transforms Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and teachings into community action that helps solve social problems. On this day, Americans of every age and background celebrate Dr. King through service projects that strengthen communities, empower individuals, bridge barriers, and create solutions. Good Deeds Day - Annual Event in the Spring

The fourth Saturday of October is Community Service Day. Nationally known as  Make a Difference Day, Montgomery County has been celebrating and serving on Community Service Day for 31 years!  You can find projects the whole week!

Random Acts of Kindness Week

Celebrate the little things we do for others.  This celebration falls in mid February.


MARCH

Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning

This day honors the life, work, and teaching of Cesar Chavez.  This day is celebrated on his birthday March 31.


APRIL

Global Youth Services Day

This day celebrates and helps to mobilize the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning.


JULY

Mandela Day

“Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day.” This day is a time to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good.


SEPTEMBER

9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance - September 11th

A day of charitable service and doing good deeds. Created to provide a positive way to forever remember and pay tribute to the 9/11 victims, honor those that rose in service in response to the attacks, and to remind people of the importance of working more closely together in peace to improve our world.

Day to Serve

Maryland Governor partners with Virginia, West Virgina, DC to promote service projects between September and October.


NOVEMBER

National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week

Each year, one week before Thanksgiving, National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness co-sponsor National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week. During this week, a number of schools, communities and cities take part in a nationwide effort to bring greater awareness to the problems of hunger and homelessness.
