The Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) Library operates as a branch of the Montgomery County Department of Public Libraries, and is open 40 hours weekly.  The MCCF Library offers free and equal access to services and resources to help the inmate population find the general and legal information they need to improve and enrich their lives, and enable their successful re-entry into the community.  A wide variety of reading material is available, comprised of a collection of approximately 15,000 fiction and nonfiction titles, paperbacks, reference books, encyclopedias and newspapers, including materials in Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese.  Inmates have access to the library on a biweekly basis, and may check out up to seven books to take back to their cells.

Services Information

  • The Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) Library provides inmates access to recreational, educational, and legal materials in order to improve and enrich their lives as well as to  facilitate successful community reentry. The library holds approximately 15,000 books, including materials in several languages. As mandated by Maryland and Federal law, the MCCF Library provides select legal resources in print for inmates researching their active cases or matters of incarceration. A librarian conducts online searches of statutes and case law per inmate request.
  • Inmates visit the library on a rotating schedule to borrow books and to do legal research. Word-processing computers are available to inmates; however, Internet access is not available.  Inmates are allowed 25 free photocopies of legal-related material per week. Photocopy requests in excess of 25 pages per week cost ten cents per page.
  • Modified library service will be provided as possible according to federal, state, and/or local government emergency mandates.
