Attendance:
Bina Allgood - OSC, MCCF, Robert Green - Warden, MCCF, Kathie Hulley - Clarksburg Civic Association, Barbara James - Model Learning Center, MCCF, Titus Ledbetter III - The Gazette, Suzy Malagari - Deputy Warden, MCCF, Mary Saxon-Clipper - Program and Volunteer Coordinator, MCCF, Jacob Stone - Conflict Resolution Center of Montg. Co.
Membership:
Warden Green sent out a number of surveys to people that may want to be involved or have an interest in the advisory group. It was found that the jail does a very good job keeping them informed. Because we send out so much information, most said it was not necessary to attend the meetings. Warden Green passed out his business cards to those attending to invite anyone they think would be good members of our community advisory board or have an interest.
Discussion:
Volunteer Appreciation Banquet
Warden Green praised Mary Saxon-Clipper for all her hard work on the Volunteer Appreciation Banquet. The banquet was such a success and had an attendance of over 100 volunteers.
Budget
In the budget deliberations MCCF lost over 1 million dollars, and there was a decrease in personnel and service costs. Also lost were six positions, the ARC cleaning contract, and five correctional officers positions were frozen.
Lobby Announcement Screen
In an effort to reach out to the community, there is a new TV screen or Kiosk in the lobby that has continuous running information on MCCF and community service information. If there are any community or civic events, or information or services that groups/associations would like to post (in PowerPoint format), please contact us. Camps – (Children of Incarcerated Parents)
Camp Hope (2nd year), which is sponsored by the United Methodist Church, is being held June 22 - 27, 2008 at West River in Churchton, Maryland.
Camp Starfish (4th year), which is sponsored by the Hyattstown Christian Church, is being held August 3 – 6, 2008 at Camp Mary Mac, near Sharpsburg.
County Stat
County Stat is a new process to County Government that is a statistical analysis of how we do business, our outcomes and if we’re meeting the needs of our population and community. The link below will connect you to the performance plan, what we’re going to be accountable for and what we’re going to forward to you as citizens and taxpayers.

Citizen’s Interest Academy
We are considering starting a Citizen’s Interest Academy (CIA) for corrections. The community knows about police and fire, but do not know the impact corrections can and will have on their daily lives. We would put together a 24 hour academy that would run for seven weeks on an evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to cover topics about corrections, personal defense skills, correctional law, or the impact of corrections on politics, to name a few. Those present were asked to email Warden Green with ideas of what they would find interesting to learn about in the academy.
Kathy Hulley suggested making contact with the Ombudsman (Kathy Mitchell) and possibly using the Ombudsman’s office (the corner of Stringtown Road and Rt. 355) for the meetings and trainings.
Clarksburg Civic Association
Warden Green talked with Kathy Hulley about hosting a Clarksburg Civic Association meeting in our Community Room. September 22, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. was scheduled (4th Monday of the month). We’ll provide refreshments and a tour.
Correctional Education Advisory Sub-Group
The 2nd annual high school/GED graduation will be held on June 13 at 1:30 p.m.
