What is the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)?

This is one of the components of the hiring process. The CPAT is an eight-evolution physical fitness test that each candidate must successfully complete in 10 minutes to continue in the hiring process. MCFRS offers an 8-week mentoring program to assist candidates pass the CPAT. Candidates will have the opportunity to attend training sessions to prepare them for the CPAT. This training includes a combination of personalized fitness training and the opportunity to practice the eight evolutions they will be tested on.

Preparing for the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)

The resources on this page will assist in preparing candidates for the candidate physical ability test. The CPAT assesses the ability of candidates to perform the basic physical functions required to become a firefighter recruit. The videos below will explain each evolution of the test. Moreover, this information, healthy diet and regular exercise regimen, should be used as a guide only. All exercise regiments should be discussed with an approved by your healthcare professional.
